Some tips you might like to have that we learned through trial and error. We should have really read up on the subject rather than blunder our way through, but a lot of it is perhaps quite obvious.

1. EVERYTHING MUST BE STUCK TO THE SET. It's just too easy to accidentally bump things.

2. The camera should be attached to the thing you are filming. This means that if something gets bumped, everything moves together

3. No flash. It will be too harsh with how close everything is to the camera.

4. Use a timer or remote trigger to reduce camera and set shake.

5. Keep your lighting constant. All scenes should be shot at night for this reason.

6. All sources, even things like the computer monitor, can contribute to flickering effects on your set.

7. Reflections of the camera and the camera man in the shiny surfaces on the set should be watched out for.

8. Also, reflected light and shadow on the set.

9. You must know how to white balance your camera. You could do this in post, but it's a pain.

10. Be aware of light temperature (colour). Different types and colours of lights.

11. Learn to mask your lights with paper, to ensure it isn't shining straight into the lens, or causing bad shadows.

12. Softening light with reflections off paper and the ceiling is also a good plan.

13. Softening shadows can be done in the same way.

14. Some scenes will be far easier to film backwards.

15. Running sheets, or some method of tracking what you've animated and what shots you've taken. It can take such a long time between taking each frame that you can forget where you're at.

16. Take a methodical approach. If you shoot each scene following some set procedure, you reduce the chances of making mistakes.

17. Small camera moves can be done digitally in post. Your camera probably takes a photo that is way larger than your final movie frame. Use all that extra data to save you some hassle. Really, this is the biggest and best thing we learned, apart from lighting control.

18. You can make Black-Tack by mixing Blu-Tack with black marker pen. Or you can use Coax-Seal.
